Heroes of Liberty:

Soldiers, Settlers, and the Spirit of Independence

Hancock Historical Society’s summer exhibit focuses on Hancock’s soldiers of the Revolution, the town’s early settlement, the promise of John Hancock, and the contributions of women, including a Hancock connection to Bunker Hill. Only a handful of families lived in what would become the town of Hancock when the Alarm of April 19, 1775 was raised at Lexington. Many more came during and after the War for Independence—men with ties to each other through blood, hometowns, war service, and marriage.  The exhibit draws connections between our nation’s founding and the events that helped establish Hancock in 1779.
